North Devon Holiday Home Water Borehole

Geologic Borehole and Systems were contacted by a holiday home owner who had a family owned property in rural North Devon. There was no mains water at the property and for years they had been using rainwater from the roof to supply water to the property. The property was undergoing some works and updates and the owner had decided to investigate the possibility of getting a reliable and useable borehole water supply. A site visit was arranged and it soon became clear that one of the biggest factors was access to the property. Very tight roads meant that a small lorry was only able to get to within about ΒΌ mile of the property. Other borehole companies that the customer had spoken to had been unable to get equipment to site, or were quoting huge figures to undertake the works.

They were very keen to explore the possibility of a borehole as it offered the opportunity of becoming more self sufficient, and making the property a viable rental prospect. After the site visit we put together a quote for the customer, which outlined every stage of the process and detailed the costs in a transparent and easy to understand manner. The difficult access issues were discussed and we provided assurances that a suitable rig was available from our fleet.

A 45M borehole was drilled and installed. The completed system pumps water from the borehole into an existing water storage tank, the pump being controlled by a float switch in the tank. The water is then gravity fed into the property providing about 2 bar pressure. The water is treated with a UV steriliser and particle filters, this is the only treatment required, with the water meeting the drinking water regulation guidelines.

The entire project took 4 weeks from start to finish, this allowed time for the borehole to settle, trench work to be excavated to connect to water tank and electrical supply, the analysis of the water sample and the building and installation of the water treatment system. The owners now enjoy a reliable water system and have commented that the difference in taste over the mains supply at their main property is vast. They are now considering a borehole at that property as well.

We have also written more case studies on our clients, where we have drilled water boreholes for a hotel, kennels and irrigation project in North Devon and across the south of England.
