Borehole Drillers in Devon and Cornwall

Boreholes in the South West of England

Having a borehole drilled is a cost effective alternative to using south west water. Depending on the geology using a borehole driller can cost from around £2,500 for a shallow 12m borehole upto £30,000 for a difficult 150m borehole in a green sand area that could move thousands of litres of water a day, with storage tanks, filtration and booster pumps.

There are thousands of boreholes throughout the South West of varying depth and type. These are scattered across the counties and include locations such as Taunton, Exeter, Plymouth, Torbay, Bodmin, St Ives and all surrounding areas, from inner city to rural retreats. These are owned by South West Water, public and private companies and households alike and provide water to individuals and the regional supply.

The Geology around Devon, Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset & Cornwall includes Mudstone, Sandstone, Green sand and Chalk to name just a few. Each responds and copes with being drilled into in their own way and as such provide different challenges when drilling a borehole. Some are self supporting materials, others need support to prevent collapse. The type and make up of the ground has a significant bearing on the time it will take to drill and therefore the cost of the borehole. The geological survey gives a good indication of what materials will be drilled through and this is discussed with the client before any work commences.

More and more people and businesses in the South West and South East are realising that a borehole can meet all of their water needs and eliminate soaring water bills. We are transparent about our costs and have prepared a breakdown of the costs for drilling a water borehole.
